(ET) Status of tractors
Been a busy summer so far, and the list is quiet so I thought I'd post a
quick status update:
E20: Transmission is still "grumbling" under load; something is broken
in there. Need to either get another transmission or take the whole
thing offline for a month and take it apart. My guess is one of the
bearings in there is seriously broken. However it's still being used
with the tiller attachment for re-planting grass in the rock hard
portions of my yard.
E15 junker: Currently has the mower deck which has a hole on the right
side by the rear rollers due to rust that grass flies out of. Always
wearing safety glasses, will swap everything to a new deck shell in the
fall. In the meantime the deck motors are quiet and smooth running since
I got that wall mounted blade balancer and shaved off some of the blade
to balance each one out.
Oddly enough I have noticed the batteries are running down quickly and
the transformer makes a slightly louder hum that does not change by
disconnecting the 4uf capacitor. It's bad; need to replace it and get a
spare.
E15 nice: Still has flat-ish front tires, need to order a new pair.
Prances around the yard with the trailer for now, runs fine on one
string of BB600's. Need to add another two strings to give it the range
of the E20, it's a keeper.
The snowblower is ready for the winter, the chainsaw works well, and the
tiller of course is great. Covering the tiller with POR15 a decade or
two ago has resulted in not one chip or speck of rust on it at all
including underneath where the tines are ripping up the ground. Coating
stuff in POR15 is IMO a good idea.
The trailer I covered in POR15 also has stopped rusting, now I need to
weld on some plates that cover the bottom there.
I should remember to POR15 the new deck as well. For the old shell I may
just weld it up but it's a thinner metal one and has seen a lot of
action. Still, they are not making more of the things and the new one is
a much heavier gauge Bill Gunn model.
I wonder what happened to the dies to make those.
