(ET) Front wheel question

I just picked up two E15s with build dates of August 14, 1970 and 
December 9, 1970 (correct?) so they are very close in age and they seem 
to be sitting all eight tires being original "GE" branded. The question 
I have is why is one tractor wearing a set of front wheels/tires that 
are wide and the other tractor has the skinny wheels found on my E12?  
Did someone switch the wheels long ago, or was there a reason some E15s 
would get wide front wheels/tires and others got skinny ones? They look 
identical other than the front wheels.

Skinny mower motors or the larger ones, which are preferred and why?  Is 
there a modern replacement mower blade available today?
