Speaking of 'getting the screws out'... I'd like a few words with whoever
designed 
the hold-down on the electrolytic cap on the charger.  Even though there 
was
room, 
they used a strap with screws that are too big for a nut driver, and there
isn't space 
for an end-wrench.  You can either 'turn-down' a 11/32" socket (1/4" drive)
in a 
lathe, or remove the batteries and cut off the bracket.  When it goes back,
it will 
have smaller nuts.

hi geof, i think it can be disassembled the way you described.  i recently 
acquired several panels with selonoids etc that had been taken out that 
way.

getting the screws out of the panels may be the hardest part.  good luck,
