Learn change ringing during IAP

There will be an IAP class teaching change-ringing both on hand and tower bells. The first class will meet on Thursday, January 9th, in room 1-273, from 7:00pm to 9:30pm. There will be an explanation of what change-ringing is all about and a demonstration. After that we will teach you the very beginnings of handbell ringing and then go to the Church of the Advent (across the river in Boston) to demonstrate tower-bell ringing and give you a try at that as well. Transporation will be provided.

During the rest of IAP we will schedule classes in either tower or handbells, depending on demand. Tower-bell ringing starts out as being a physical skill involving controlling a bell, and it's easiest to learn it with a fair amount of concentrated instruction. If you want, we can make this possible by scheduling frequent sessions during IAP.

We normally ring handbells every Monday night on the 2nd floor balcony of Lobby 7. You can always join us then (even before IAP) and we will teach you to ring. If this is inconvenient, or you want to ring more often than this (e.g. because you are free during IAP but otherwise too busy) we can schedule additional handbell classes as well.

There is no need to preregister for the class, but for more information you can send email to Ken Olum, kdo@cosmos.phy.tufts.edu.

You do not need musical skill or experience to learn change-ringing, nor does ringing a tower bell require physical strength.
