Re: [Hunt03] Similar goings on at Stanford / Support Needed in New Orleans (Urban Challenge)
This game is known as "The Stanford Game" - I've played in six of the last
seven. There is a *much* higher driving to solving ratio than in the
Mystery Hunt. Approximately 20 to 25 puzzles, while you're covering 300 to
400 miles in a van without sleep.
I did a writeup of the 420 game from April of 2001 on my web site at
http://www.t-hunts.com/420/420index.html - this includes all the clues and
solutions from that game.
BTW I am going to New Orleans next week to participate in the National
Championships of the Urban Challenge which will be held on Saturday morning
November 15th. Because the trivia quiz starts at 7:30 am N.O. time and the
actual game (staggered start in 10 waves 3 minutes apart based on results
on
trivia quiz) starts at 8:00, our support team here in San Francisco will be
on site at our "war room" - my apartment - by 5:30 am!
The game has easy clues (see http://www.urbanchallenge.com - then go to
2002's Las Vegas page to see the clues) - but they often require internet
research, and knowledge of the host city's history, street layout and
public
transit system is a huge plus.
Does anybody on this list have an interest in being on our support team
(either via phone or instant messenger)? or - oh frabjous joy if yes -
does
anybody on this list have friends in New Orleans who might be interested in
helping us out, or do you yourself know New Orleans well?
We have a core support team set up including a couple of people in New
Orleans, but we don't know them too well ...their solving skills, grace
under pressure, or even commitment to showing up are all untested...so more
volunteers, especially experienced gamers and/or those who are New Orleans
natives or residents, are always welcome. You'd be participating from
approximately 8 am to 11:30 am New Orleans time (add an hour for east coast
time)...with most of the intense research being front-loaded in that time
interval, since we get all the clues at the start.
I did a writeup of our experience in the San Francisco leg of the game at
http://www.t-hunts.com/sfactualuc.html.
Thanks for any help, and I'm looking forward to participating in my first
Mystery Hunt in January!!!
