That's the trouble with these half-century old machines, isn't it? Fewer
and
fewer parts donors all the time. I hate to think how many stored for
decades
in barns and garages have ended up in scrapyards when their owners went
into
care homes or passed on.
About a year ago a friend of mine showed up at my door with some kind of
electronic gadget for his pool. It wasn't working - the gadget, I mean.
It
kept blowing fuses. It was an easy diagnosis - a shorted power transformer.
I scoured Ebay and the surplus sites for something that would work, but he
found a shop in Poland that made custom transformers. I think he paid
something like 30 or 35 euros for it, plus postage and packing of course.
A
couple of weeks later he was back in the swim.
I'd almost wager that somwhere in Eastern Europe or China there has to be a
similar shop that builds motors to spec. Order a couple dozen, or a couple
hundred, and you'll be set for life. You might even make a few bucks
selling
spares to other ETers.
