Re: (ET) Spring mower deck stuff....

Yep. It was bound to happen and while the suppliers (who are also not going to live forever) still have plenty of stuff my personal supplies are starting to run a bit low.

Annoying, after getting the deck on my junker E15 and doing a bit of mowing the battery ran out. So I put it on charge and this morning went out to start it up and heard the relays chattering when I put it in speed 1 then silence. Blew the controller fuse, so something is up on Card 1 again.

Great.....

That's the trouble with these half-century old machines, isn't it? Fewer
and
fewer parts donors all the time. I hate to think how many stored for
decades
in barns and garages have ended up in scrapyards when their owners went
into
care homes or passed on.

About a year ago a friend of mine showed up at my door with some kind of
electronic gadget for his pool. It wasn't working - the gadget, I mean.
It
kept blowing fuses. It was an easy diagnosis - a shorted power transformer.

I scoured Ebay and the surplus sites for something that would work, but he
found a shop in Poland that made custom transformers. I think he paid
something like 30 or 35 euros for it, plus postage and packing of course.
A
couple of weeks later he was back in the swim.

I'd almost wager that somwhere in Eastern Europe or China there has to be a
similar shop that builds motors to spec. Order a couple dozen, or a couple
hundred, and you'll be set for life. You might even make a few bucks
selling
spares to other ETers.
