I always use Anderson connectors for this sort of thing.  You can get
them directly from http://www.andersonpower.com.  There are various
models rated for different currents.  I'm confused about what you need
because you mentioned replacing a 30A connector and then talked about
1000A.  4 gauge wire has ampacity < 100A.
