I am doing a complete disassemble (and hopefully, reassemble) of two "tall mower motors" from parts of three. I am unable to decide if the motor protectors are ok, specifically the bimetal disc with contacts. Klixon generic diagrams show both contacts should open (lift off of the terminals). Gently tugging on each end of the disc where the contacts are spot welded to the disc will lift one side but not the other. My question is- has one of the contacts "welded" itself to the terminal or is the protector designed to open at only one of the contacts (the other being factory welded to the terminal)? All three protectors have
that same condition. I sacrificed one by removing the small nut on the center post and tried to remove the disc, when it would not come out I ruined it but confirmed one contact was "welded". Thanks. Mike.
