Re: (ET) Motor Break in

Folks over on the EVDL would probably have much more to say, but...

there are 3 areas I'd keep an eye on during break-in:

1) As already discussed, the brushes need to be fully seated or else current significantly limited to prevent damage.

2) The batteries also will break in; they will improve after the first one or two dozen cycles. Keep an extra close eye on the pack voltage at first and to make sure it doesn't drop too low (< 137 volts). As the pack wakes up, it should be able to provide more current without the voltage dropping as much.

3) Connections may "break in" as well. Be on the lookout for any hot terminals after a drive as bad crimps surface. Also keep your wrench handy and check that all connections are nice and tight as they may loosen more easily at first.

Enjoy that EV grin!

Now that I have my 65 Datsun truck running, I would like some
suggestions on breaking in the motor.
At present the motor probably only has ~ 2 hours on it.

Should I try to drive at a certain RPM ?
Is keeping the RPM higher better than lower ?
Any other suggestions ?
