Re: (ET) Pipe Dream Or A Reality To Look Forward To ?

I have been following the Firefly batteries for years. The initial claims like all new batteries were very exciting. To weigh 25 percent of a lead battery. Able to handle loads of current and a huge cycle life improvement over other lead batteries.

Looking at the following specs

The weight is just the same as any other lead battery. However the 600 cycles to 80% DOD is a good gain. It depends on what they will sell the battery for? I never could get them to respond even when offering to buy a full truck load.

Not that weight is a concern for tractors but for just about everything else lighter is better. Lipo's are coming down in price and their cycle life is improving.

Mil Ovan, senior vp and co-founder of Firefly Energy, says his
company's Oasis Group 31 truck battery also "might be more expensive
in terms of initial purchase price compared to traditional batteries,
but the actual cost of ownership over its service life can result in
significant savings in terms of fewer batteries used, reduced
maintenance, downtime and service disruption."

The Oasis battery uses microcell foam technology to provide high
runtime and greater number of deep discharge cycles. It has broad
applicability for on-highway and delivery trucks, including powering
liftgates, reefer units and accessories in sleeper cabs. This summer
the manufacturer is releasing a new Oasis deep-cycle VRLA (valve
regulated lead acid) battery that features advanced materials and
design to provide even greater energy storage performance.
