RE: (ET) Motor Control Probem on by C-185/E-20

Well I thought I had it fixed. Spent a couple of hours trying to find why
my C-185 wouldn't run. Decided to unscrew the dashboard faceplate. When
I finally got it out of the way it looked like a field mouse had set up
house. Had to clean out Nuts, nest, and mice turds from everywhere.
Inspected the wiring but all looked good except the F/R switch stake-on
terminal was broken and hanging free. I installed a new terminal and
reassembled. NOTHING! Damn!

Removed the foot pedal microswitch assembly and looked for voltage at the
first switch... Nothing. Hummmm now were getting somewhere... Nothing at
the second switch but the third switch makes and controls a solenoid (I
can hear/feel the click when energized).

Back to the control circuit. All diode check out OK using my Digital VOM
with diode check capabilities.

The search goes on! All ideas appreciated.

Can anyone tell me how to troubleshoot a solenoid? Is as simple as using
jumper leads to the two small posts on the side controlling the internal
coil?

Thanks in advance,

Bob

I went out to use my tractor last evening and couldn't go! Here's the
symptoms;

1. Main power switch engaged and working.
2. Key in the on position, fuel level gage indicating full.
3. Depress foot switch and nothing but a click from a solenoid just
front of the foot well area.
4. Opened cover and can manually override relays to operate motor.
5. When switched to reverse, the RED led reverse indicator light is
on. When I depress the foot pedal it goes out. I can manually override
at the relay to make it work.
6. When I try to engage the PTO switch I get no power at the plug
(mower deck or welder)
7. Front lift works fine but is wired independently from main motor
control circuitry.

Any ideas?

Bob Klein
